I will provide quality drum tracks for your project, expertly recorded and edited, and can provide additional percussion and/or mixing services upon request. If you are a producer, my studio is outfitted with flexible workstations so you can have complete control of the workflow. I am also available for gigs and touring!
DRUMMING
Alex Platt began playing the drums at the age of 10, began gigging professionally at the age of 13, and along with his prodigious younger brother Adam Platt (piano), started his career early in life opening jazz festival shows for international jazz stars like Ahmad Jamal, Diana Krall, Giacomo Gates, Lew Soloff, Mose Allison, Danny Gottlieb, and many others. He went on to study with drum legends Joe LaBarbara, Mike Clark, Tootie Heath, Rick Latham, Dave Elitch, Jeff Hamilton, and received his performance degree in Jazz and African-American Music from the California Institute of the Arts in 2001. He has performed and/or recorded with jazz artists such as trumpet legend Jack Walrath, bassist Bob Bowman, Oranyon Coltrane, Alice Coltrane, Brad Rabuchin, as well as country artist Stephanie Quayle, soul/funk impresario Big Joe Hurt, Persian legends Bahram Bajelan and Mehrdad Arabi, Jake Faulkner and Zac Sokolow of The Americans, Christian Lee Hutson, and many others.
Drums include: Rocket Shells (carbon fiber) 6 piece kit including 10” side-snare, 14” snare ("Free-floating" with PEARL maple shell interchangeable), 12” tom, 14” floor, 16” floor, and 20” kick. Cymbals include 21” Istanbul Mel Lewis Ride, 20” Zildjian K Constantinople Medium Low Ride, 20” Zildjian Dark Custom Ride, Zildjian 1970 20” Avedis Ride, Zildjian 18” Custom Session Crash, Zildjian 15” Dark Crash, Zildjian 10” Hybrid Splash, Zildjian 14” Avedis QuickBeat Hats, Zildian 14” Dark Custom Hats, and Istanbul Mehmet 14” Hats. Also available are kits by Rogers (1958) and Gretsch.
Other percussion: Tabla (I am formally trained with masters such as Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, John Bergamo, and Randy Gloss), Doumbek, Duff, and various shakers and noisemakers.
